This week the Civic Center announced the 2008-2009 Willis Broadway Series. The season opens in September with the drama Frost/Nixon which accounts David Frost’s interview with former President Nixon. In January, the Tony Award® winning musical Spring Awakening brings its fusion of morality and rock & roll followed by the stage adaptation of Legally Blonde which promises “feel-good song and dance.” In April, Oprah Winfrey presents The Color Purple, based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Alice Walker and the film by Steven Spielberg. And for four weeks the following September the Tony Award® winning Wicked lands in Des Moines. This Wizard of Oz-prequel weaves the story of the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch into the most spellbinding new musical in years.
